So I haven't been posting here in awhile, not because of a love lost for music, but more to do with a busy work and travel schedule.

I have got to DJ in Thailand, Laos & Cambodia. But now, my next goal isn't to do with DJing or music but to Sail around the world.....

Yes that's right, sail around the world. So obviously I'll need to raise some funds, get a boat and then do it.

I'll keep people updated on here as to what is happening regarding this next goal.

Well I have been terribly busy as of late and haven't been updated as much as I would have liked.

So I'll get straight to it and throw another Quick Ten with Bleep Beep Click at cha!

1.When were you first interested in Electronic Music?

I was first interested in electronic music in 1994. My friends started taking me to a night at The Purple Haze in Montreal. I t took place on Wednesday nights. It was a dirty little Drum and Bass night in a dirty little rocker bar. Brilliant

But if you want to get technical I break danced in the 80's to the Beat Street soundtrack.

2. What was your first record you bought?

Not sure about this one........ Let's say the first Record I remember buying with my own money was Led Zeppelin II. I think I was 10.

3. Serato/Cd’s/Vinyl…. Any thoughts?

Vinyl is the father of all music formats. Serato is the greatest thing to happen to the Dj world since vinyl. And cd's ...... no comment.

4. Do you have any pet peeves?

Probably. Not sure I know where to start.

5. Favorite Drink?

Taghum sunrise !! or maybe Beergerita..

6. Is there anyone would like to meet living or dead?

I don't think there is. Although that's not saying that I wouldn't like to meet anyone.

7. Where do you see yourself in 10 years.

Good god. Celebrating a birthday hopefully

8. What is the best musical festival or show you have played at or attended?

Shambhala music festival

9. Who is your favorite band or Producer at the moment?

Diplo

10. What is your Dream Vacation

My dream vacation is one that has no time constraints. Something that can last as long as need be. Doesn't matter where. As long as I can take my time.

Fifth Quick Ten

Vancouver Island has seen several people throw various raves, club nights and events over the past decade. Few have lasted as long as Fat Kats, headed by Greg Gilks. Fatkats continue to throw some amazing nights with great talent.

These events aren't limited to a particular city as Fat Kats have held events from Courtney down to Victoria, and have always been well received. Even on a few occisions I have had the pleasure of playing one of his events.

1. When did you first get interested in Dance/Electronic Music?

I guess, late 90's with Prodigy Daft punk and what not and it moved deeper from there.

2. Who or what has been your biggest influence

I think with our group of friends, we sort of influenced each other, if that makes any sense, as for promoting itself, it was from Dave Hartwell from Knightmove and Casey from 4play. They showed Fk and Dizzy the ropes, they were sort of on their way out as we were coming in.

3. What has been the craziest experience while promoting?

There's been a lot of surreal/crazy moments, most of which are not moments you'd want posted on the internet. I guess one of the better PG stories is during a Long Weekend Spin Sunday at the Press Room. We had UK Rugby team bus pull up and 50 odd of them pile in; Huge jockey-looking brits who loved their house music. To add to this, a Veteran of a battle that I cannot recall, came in and put 1,200+dollars on the counter for everyone to drink in memory of his fallen comrades. With 3$ hiballs and 160'ish people in attendance, this lasted pretty much the entire night. There is something about getting free drinks that makes people forget their, usually well known, drinking limitation and go for broke. An unforgettable night for those who can actually remember it.

4. Equipment Set up for the DJ Does it matter as a promoter?

Directly? No, however, all you have in promotion is your name, and if DJ's arrive and you have no monitors and non-standard equipment like vestax decks etc, they're probably going to be upset and be quite vocal about it. To be honest, I barely know how to set up decks, I know enough to know that I shouldn't be the one dealing with it, so I rarely am. If you don't have a proper set up, or don't at least warn the dj's ahead of time of said improper set up, you're a bad promoter.

5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I gave up pipe dreams of professional promotion years ago, promotion teaches you a lot of things, listed prominently among them is being realistic. I'm unsure where I'll be in 10 years, I suppose I should have some idea. I'd not be adversed to throwing the occasional show, much like I do now, but as an occasional hobby type thing.

6. What is one piece of technology you can’t live without?

Internet access, and whatever device delivers that. Pre-internet promotion is something I don't even want to think about. You gotta respect promoters from the 80's and 90's, they weren't making FB events and spamming their friends list. That shit was real, and I've done enough of hand-bombing, car window flyering to know that relying solely on it would be effing rough.

7. What is the best musical festival or show you have attended or thrown?

Best show I feel we ever threw was Pixel. It was our last 'rave', and I just think it was as complete as we ever came to throwing the 'perfect show', minor drama/issues and containing the proper elements of a party. Best I've ever attended? The ones that impressed me themost were probably: Fun House by Noble house, Sip 3 (in the tents), Mid Summers Night dream, and VEMF of course. Mostly due to the budgets and set ups that were involved. Once you understand, first hand what's involved in throwing a show, it gives you a different gauge to appraise things on.

8. Who is your favorite producer or band at the moment?

It changes week to week, right now, producer wise? probably Glitch Mob. This weeks band is probably NIN, they're my favourite band anyway, but this week especially I've been rocking them. It's the Autumn weather.

9. Worst Habit?

Procrastination certainly; I need constant motivation/harassment orthe threat of an impending deadline. Thankfully, I preform very well with a metaphorical (or perhaps literal) gun to my head.

10. What is your dream vacation?

For our Fourth Quick Ten Questions with Bleep Beep Click we have a short interview with hrdvsion who presently lives in Berlin Germany. Hrdvsion, has several releases on Wagon Repair, with some new ones coming out soon.

A couple of years ago, I had the fortunate experience of living with Hrdvsion, I would not related this experience to having the best roommate,... however, I would say this was the roommate I've ever had with the most creative passion. Firstly, we had a coffee table made out of rommance novels.... and to add to that our kitchen looked like a piece of art. Furthermore, there were many early morning where good music was made, while I continued to drink.

Hrdvsion is one of a kind, and you can hear his style from a mile away, but don't be confused. He has SEVERAL phuedo-names, with music made my all of them,.... if you're not sure who made that insanely wierd (great) track, my first guess is always Hrdvsion aka Nathan Jonson.

1. When were you first interested in Electronic Music?

My mom put me in piano lessons when I was 8 and instead of my dad getting a regular piano most parents would get their children to practice on, he bought a 88 key weighted midi keyboard with general midi soundbank and 2 track midi recorder. Since I could practice with headphones on, it meant I didn't have to practice the pieces my teacher had given me all the time and could muck about and experiment with the different electronic aspects of the gear. so...maybe 1988? or maybe it was whenever Breakin'/Beverly Hills Cop/Thriller came out.....though perhaps that would have been a more accurate an answer to "When were you first interested in becoming a robot?"

2. What was your first record you bought?

I'm not sure which is the first 'I' bought. but when I turned 17 my mom and brother both bought me each a squarepusher record for my birthday. Hard Normal Daddy, and Big Loada, still two of my favorite albums of all time!

3. Serato/Cd’s/Vinyl…. Any thoughts?

Vinyl is a book laying on a sheep skin rug in front of a fireplace.

4. Do you have any pet peeves?

The feeling of being trapped when I'm not or seeing someone else feel trapped when they aren't.

5. Favorite Drink?

Beer, or Orange Juice but not together. Close 3rd is MILK!!!! YUMMMMMM!

6. Is there anyone you would like to meet living or dead?

Whether I meet someone depends on if I find I have something valid to talk to them about that interests them too. If I talk to people I want to meet or who's music I love but have nothing to say, I'm always left feeling like a groupie and so I tend to not involve myself in the lives of the composers who's music I love. I have talked to many people I've wanted to meet over the years as I become more of a music nerd and can offer something to the conversation. I would much rather instead of meet my dream people, to just see them play music, or speak. For example, I'd like to see Chopin play piano, but do I want to meet him in a MTV Dream Date kind of way? "Ok, lets get a picture"..."OH MY GOD OH MY GOD....I LOVE YOU!!!!!! BAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWLLL....."....

7. Where do you see yourself in 10 years.

I can't even begin to describe the two extremes of rapid exponential happiness and the utter horrific nightmare that just passed through my mind.

8. What is the best musical festival or show you have played at or attended?

That is tough.
For friends being around it has to be Soundwave in Ucluelet Canada. For the number of other performers i wanted to see it has to be the Electron Festival in Geneva Switzerland. and for the best crowd reaction to my set has to be Fabric, in London England.

9. Who is your favorite band or Producer at the moment?

Squarepusher. Hands Down. Favorite Band, Favorite Producer, Favorite Moment, Favorite Favorite!

10. What is your Dream Vacation

Surrounded by friends and family, and money burning holes in my pockets.

The third interview in our series come from dj Ph0ng who presently is residing in Vancouver. Phong is a good friend of mine who has a way behind the decks to keep the dance floor full, I first saw him play back in May of 2002 at a rave called SIP 3, just North of Victoria. During that period, I had recently moved from Toronto Area back to Vancouver Island and I remember being impressed with his track selection. Since then Ph0ng has played mainly on the West Coast, but has travelled further afoot, to even headline the UK Garage, North American Conference in Texas

1. When did you first get interested in Dance/Electronic Music

I can attribute my interest in electronica directly with the rise of the internets. Before I got online (in about '95), all I had to listen to was muchmusic and really mediocre radio stations that barely came in (I was living in a pretty small town). With internet access, I discovered music like drum n bass, happy hardcore, trance and hardhouse... It only took a few months to get over those genres and find what I liked.

2. Who or what has been your biggest influence

All my friends that DJ have been my biggest influences regarding DJing. It's them that I look to for challenge, opportunity, support and the drive to continually better my craft. Thanks, friends!

3. What has been the craziest experience while Djing?

Probably more funny than crazy; I was playing a 2nd room event, with my pal dj Pants - we brought out all the housey, sexy tracks that serve to make a 2nd room all the more intimate. A crazy-good vibe and everybody was dancing and enjoying themselves (moreso than the main room!) when.. Nickelback showed up, ruining everything.

4. Serato/Vinyl/Cd’s?.... Any thoughts?

I prefer the sound and tactile feel of vinyl, but I do like how accessible and portable CDs and Serato allow electronic music to be. Though, being able to just lift your entire music collection under your arm feels a bit 'cheap' versus taking the time to select your tracks individually before the night and 'weigh' your choices appropriately (pun totally intended!).

5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Someplace warm and sunny, with all my friends.

6. What is one piece of technology you can’t live without?

My laptop - it's my centre of knowledge, my workspace, my archive.

7. What is the best musical festival or show you have attended?

I think seeing Moby at his Area1 festival, when it came to Vancouver was my most memorable experience. A great vibe and festival feel.

8. Who is your favorite producer or band at the moment?

I've been enjoying the moody, dark, 2-step influenced sounds of Burial for the longest while now.

9. Worst Habit?

Procrastination.

10. What is your dream vacation?

I really enjoy Europe, but I really dream of seeing all the tropics.

The second person I have for you to hear from is Davin Greenwell aka. AFK from Victoria Canada.

1. When did you first get interested in Dance/Electronic Music

First had to be seeing my brother doing a live PA for his band composition class in 1990 or so. It sounded like technotronic, which I suppose came first.. when did they first come out? Late 80s I think. I thought those beats were pretty good at the time.

2. Who or what has been your biggest influence

Musically there are a few - Hybrid, Ulrich Schnauss, LSG / Oliver Lieb, that kind of thing.

3. What has been the craziest experience while Djing?

DJing with Hybrid themselves was pretty amazing at Hush. Also finishing a set at Summer Break and walking to the next stage to see Coolio starting his own set and dissing the audience was pretty entertaining.

4. Serato/Vinyl/Cd’s?.... Any Thoughts?

Not really, I'll use them all to play music.

5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Maybe doing more accessible stuff like Delerium or Conjure 1. The DJ scene is fairly limited insomuch that non-clubbers tend not to listen to club music. And non-clubbers are most people.

6. What is one piece of technology you can’t live without?

Ableton Live is amazing.

7. What is the best musical festival or show you have attended?

VEMF (Victoria Electronic Music Festival) without a question. Freaks of Rhythm was the same vibe - community oriented, no walls between genres like most electronic events.

8. Who is your favorite producer or band at the moment?

Claes Rosen - tight perc, great synths, nice basslines. I like.

9. Worst Habit?

Taking on too much extra curricular activities. Including throwing raves, festivals, radio shows, and club nights.

10. What is your dream vacation?

Somewhere tropical, Trinidad and Tobago specifically. One of these days.

Recently I decided to ask several people in and around the electronic music industry a series of 10 questions.

With these questions I hope they will give you some insight into various people from around the world, as well as introduce you to some people you may not have heard of yet.

The first person I had the pleasure to ask the quick 10 questions to is Anna Von Frances, The Don of Pink Mafia, based out of Toronto Canada.

1. When did you first get interested in Dance/Electronic Music 

The word "interested" in this question is vague. I have been working in Dance/Electronic Music in some form or another for 12 years. I'm interested in it, but I don't like 90% of it.

2. Who or what has been your biggest influence  

My mother is my biggest influence. 

3. What has been the craziest experience while promoting?  

There's a lot of shitty embarrassing stories, mostly where I embarrassed myself. I try never to meet artists if I don't have to especial the celebrity ones. There's one artist in particular who I've only met once, after having done probably 5 of his shows in Toronto. I mean I built him from nothing in this market and never met him once. So about a year ago,  I'd kind had enough; it just seemed ridiculous at that point, so i went to introduce myself to him on stage. He had his back to me and when he turned around, he handed me a bottle of piss. Yup, he was pissing on the stage cause it was too nuts to go to the bathroom. He caught that I was with the club/company/staff whatever and just passed it to me. 

4. Serato/Vinyl/Cd’s?.... Does it matter as a promoter?  

It's all the same thing on my end. It's been a while since I had to worry about what people use because every club should be set up for all of it. Mixers are the only thing people bitch about.

5. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? 

There's no way I'm telling or everyone will try to come with me.  

6. What is one piece of technology you can’t live without?  It's a real tie between my MacBook (that I just kinda caressed while typing this) and my berry. Might have to be my Mac, cause it's always there for me. the Berry fucking buzzes ALL day long. Even people who have active ones look at mine like a crying baby in the theatre. There's a real love hate with that thing.  

7. What is the best musical festival or show you have attended or thrown?  

The first shows are all the good ones on my end: First Kid Sister show, First Rye Rye show,First Get Er Done Tour, First MSTRKRFT show, First boozecan etc. 

The best one I've ever been too? NIN at Summersonic in Tokyo. 30k people in a stadium and you could hear a pin drop. That was pretty close to touching god. But the BEST shows are the ones I missed. the Knife at Lee's Palace Toronto--2007, The Strokes at Le Swimming Montreal--2001ish, The Cure Wish tour 1993, Led Zeppelin, Anywhere-1973ish 

8. Who is your favorite producer or band at the moment? 

I suppose I wouldn't be much of a manager if I didn't say Barletta, who is pretty fucking surprising, especially for a dance music producer.

For bands, I've been really into these two new idie joints, both English bands: The Beatles and The Cure. Doubt you've heard of them, but I think they've got some good potential to do something with themselves.Some of  the tunes are pretty catchy. They're ones to watch fo sho. 

9. Worst Habit? 

My worst habit is most definitely spoiling people who don't deserve it.  

10. What is your dream vacation? 

I think having a family sounds like a pretty damn good vacation. Clearly raising anything isn't easy, but i mean ideal circumstances (ie if you're suddenly rich), so you can just focus on them, what else would you need? Also, any vacation where I don't have to bring a phone and I get a chance to read a book alone is pretty awesome.

Today my best friend moved into my Condo, it also has been Ten Years since she has been playing great music.

Kenzie Clarke has won several local awards and has toured internationally. So to commemorate her first 10 years of DJing I've decided to post her first CD that very few people have ever heard.

Now this mix is nothing shy of showing the stark contrast to her music of today. Back then the music was loud and fast. Today its her music not so fast, but definitely is fun!

Over the past while I have not been about the update. Mainly because I have been overly busy. Since December I have Traveled to Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, India, Maldives, Seychelles, Madagascar, South Africa, The Reunion Islands and Mauritius. Upon my arrival back in Canada I promptly picked up on tour with Jess Jubilee & Bitchin'. From there I made sure to make an appearance at Soundwave, which might I add had some great talent, the best set of that weekend was definitely Greenskeepers. At the Start of August I was at the Victoria Electronic Music Festival, and along with Kenzie Clarke held a How to DJ seminar, the turnout was excellent at the festival and its great to see so many people out.

The next festival up was Shambhala which always proves to be a blast,... however, this year topped all the others! Check out ----> the blog from Pink Mafia for a great detail on our exploits!

Next Saturday I will be playing at Hush Nightclub in Victoria and look forward to a slight gong show!

As of late I have been totally busy, and partial lazy at the same time. I've been traveling back and forth across North America, and then over to England and back again. Monday coming up will see me headed Down Under. I haven't been to Australia in 4 years and am hoping it hasn't changed too much.

Tomorrow night will see myself and Jarhead DJing at Hush nightclub in Victoria, which I am stoked for as it is kinda a going away party for me as well.

Eastern Leg of Get 'er Done Tour

The eastern leg of the Get 'er Done tour has finished, and the girls are now storming the west.

In the east I must say I heard some amazing music, and got to see some wicked get ups!

Arriving in Toronto, I showed up early at Circa, and what did I find, Asian Idol underway, which is pretty crazy in its own right.

In kingston wigs were the name of the game, everyone had to try them on and look like Violca !

Once in Montreal we headed to the Blue Dog night club, which might I add.... has a FREE keg of beer on the dance floor on Sunday nights!

The drive back to Toronto airport was a breeze, since all the girls decided it was a good idea to sleep. Which left me to my own thoughts, realizing what an a few amazing days we had just had!

Get 'er Done Tour

Starting this Friday in Toronto is the Get 'er Done Tour featuring Violca, one half of MANSION & the girls of Bitchin', Mama Miche & Kenzie Clarke.

This tour is making eleven stops in 4 provinces and one territory. Yes, these girls will even be making it up to the Yukon!

I've been lucky enough to get to travel along for this tour. I'll be sure to get pics and hope to post back here throughout.

Happy Thanksgiving. How I spent my day was probably not like too many others. I awoke early, after a rampant night of drinking with old friends, to travel for several hours to arrive at a crazy relatives house.

Usually this would cause me to indulge into more drinking, however I was asked to do a, little task, to help out.

This little task ended up with me cutting down a tree... not some small one... but a HUGE tree.

Once complete, the only thing that kept me from running away to the funny farm was my fabulous collection of music.

Its stressful days like these I love listening to Bluetech, E-Z Rollers, Yu Miyake & Final Fantasy, among many others.

Over the past week I have been listening to more and more of Chew Fu (aka Peter Kardolus). It might be because I have a taste for remixes. Chew Fu has remixed Oasis, Frank Sinatra, the Rolling Stones, as well as many others.

Most of them can be be downloaded off of his myspace page

Chew Fu has been appearing on records as far back as 1992 but more recently has been doing remixes. You don't have to be a genius to tell this is one creative person with much more still to come.

In general I love hearing a remix of a rock or hip hop track. Usually some DJ/Producer who I have not heard of can impress me in seconds by making the track "easier to dance too". For many years I have had a special place in my heart for DJ Shadow. So when I first heard the DJ Shadow remix of "Handlebars" by the Flobots, I thought it was pretty good. However, I hadn't actually heard the original.

I came across the original a few weeks later by chance while I was hungover and eating breakfast. Right at that moment I realized how much more I enjoyed the original over the remix.
